Santander, the capital of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria is located in the Northern of Spain, with a population of around 185 000 inhabitants, is a coastal city with an extensive south facing bay which, thanks to its great beauty, is a member of the "Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club".
The city is characterised by its urban development over various small hills and watercourses. As a result, it has steep streets, sharp slopes, sprawling poplar groves and coastal pathways. It is also characterized for having reclaimed land from the sea in a large central area.

Culture is part of our region and all of its inhabitants. So, every year the International University Menéndez Pelayo and the International Festival of Music and Dance of Santander attract infinity of tourists eager to enjoy a more and more cared cultural selection.
Santander is a modern city due primarily to the fire of 1941, which destroyed the historic district. This area had to be rebuilt almost in its entirety. Alternatively, the picture-postcard village of Santanilla del Mar is nearby, as are the prehistoric caves at Puente Viesgo and Altamira.
In short, our city, with its tradition for tourism thanks to the variety of its landscapes, its beautiful beaches and promenades and its important cultural offer, is today a modern city endowed with the necessary infrastructure to respond to the demands of congress tourism.
